International Concerto Competition 2012

The AFAF Piano, Strings, Winds & Voice International Concerto Competition 2012 is intended for advanced music students who would like to challenge themselves by competing on a highly selective level. The competition requires video auditions and winners of this prestigious competition will perform at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City and have the opportunity to travel to Russia in July 2012 to perform with the renowned Kostroma Symphony Orchestra.

Eligibility & Repertoire

Auditions are open to piano, strings and winds player of all nationalities and in the following age categories:

A. 7-13 years of age
B. 14-18 years of age
C. college students
D. amateur adults

For the audition, applicants may perform any standard concerto (single movements are acceptable), or any concert piece for which orchestral accompaniments is available. Vocalists may audition in one of two repertoire categories: Classical and Folk Song.
For their recital with the Kostroma Symphony Orchestra, winners of the competition will perform one movement, selected by the judges from the participant's audition program. For the concert at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, winners will perform a separate solo piece.

Awards

Grand Prize
• $1,000 scholarship towards participation in the AFAF Summer Music Courses in Europe 2012 (Russia Tour).
• Recital with the Kostroma Symphony Orchestra conducted by Conductor Pavel Gershtein during the course of the AFAF Summer Music Courses in Europe in July 2012 (Russia Tour).
• Complimentary masterclass with a member of the Moscow Conservatory faculty.
• Participation in a Winners’ Recital at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall (Date TBA).
1st Prize
• $500 scholarship towards participation in the AFAF Summer Music Courses in Europe 2012 (Russia Tour).
• Recital with the Kostroma Symphony Orchestra conducted by Conductor Pavel Gershtein during the course of the AFAF Summer Music Courses in Europe in July 2012 (Russia Tour).
• Participation in a Winners’ Recital at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall (Date TBA).
2nd Prize
• $300 scholarship towards participation in the AFAF Summer Music Courses in Europe 2012 (Russia Tour).
• Recital with the Kostroma Symphony Orchestra conducted by Conductor Pavel Gershtein during the course of the AFAF Summer Music Courses in Europe in July 2012 (Russia Tour).
• Participation in a Winners’ Recital at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall (Date TBA).

Winners will be chosen from each of the four instrumental categories (piano/strings/winds/vocals) and in each age group. Multiple winners may be chosen by our judging panel, based on the overall lever of applicants. Other special prizes may be awarded based on judges’ recommendations. In addition, all winners will receive commemorative certificates.

How to apply

Applicants interested in participating in the AFAF Piano, Strings, Winds & Voice International Concerto Competition 2012 must submit a DVD or VHS of their audition performance, along with a completed application form and a non-refundable application fee of $200.
• The recording must be clearly labeled on the outside with your name
• The recording must be free of background noise with appropriate balance between solos and accompaniment.
• Due to the large number of submissions, audition DVD/VHS will not be reviewed or returned.

Moscow Conservatory - Great HallThe application fee for the AFAF Piano, Strings, Winds & Voice International Concerto Competition is $200 per participant. Please make checks payable to AFAF (American Fine Arts Festival), P.O. Box 106, Holmdel. NJ 07733. Application fees are non-refundable.

Deadline

Applications and audition DVD/VHS must be postmarked no later than February 20, 2012. Results will be announced on our website on March 15, 2012.
