Golden Strings of America 2012
International String Competition

AFAF Golden Strings of America, our international string competition, which debuted to universal acclaim two years ago, is back again in 2012-2013. The competition is open to string players of all nationalities and we welcome both solo performers and ensembles. Multiple finalists will be chosen based on submitted audition videos (DVD/VHS) in several age categories and 1st place winners will have the opportunity to give a recital at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, while 2nd place winners will have the chance to perform at a different venue in New York City. We invite all eligible string players, including participants of our regular festival, to take part in this exciting competition!
Repertoire & Eligibility
Participants may audition with one or several shorter pieces from the standard repertoire. A single movement of a sonata, suite or concerto is also acceptable. The length of the audition program should not exceed 10 minutes. Winners of the competition will perform one piece or movement (not to exceed 10 minutes), selected by the judges from the participant's audition repertoire. Participation in Golden Strings of America 2012 is open to string players of all nationalities, as well as string duos, trios and quartets, in the following age categories:
A. 6-10 years of age
B. 11-14 years of age
C.
B. 15-18 years of age
D. college students
E. amateur adults
Awards
Please note that multiple winners will be chosen in each age group. Other special prizes may be awarded based on judges’ recommendations.
1st Place Winners - Concert in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, 1st Place Diploma
2nd Place Winners - Concert in NYC, venue TBA, 2nd Place Diploma
How to apply
Applicants interested in participating in Golden Strings of America 2012 must submit a DVD or VHS of their audition performance, along with a completed application form and a non-refundable application fee
• The recording must be on a high quality videocassette in the VHS format or a standard DVD.
• The length of the audition program should not exceed 10 minutes.
• CD recordings will not be accepted
• The recording must be clearly labeled on the outside with your name
• The recording must be free of background noise.
• Please note that due to the large number of submissions, audition DVD/VHS will not be reviewed or returned.
Application Fees
The application fee for AFAF Golden Strings of America 2012 is $200. The application fee for string duos, trios and quartets is $100 per person. Checks or money orders should be made payable to AFAF (American Fine Arts Festival), P.O. Box 106, Holmdel. NJ 07733. Application fees are non-refundable.
Deadline
Applications and audition DVDs/VHSs must be postmarked no later than June 1, 2012. Audition results will be announced on our website on June 15, 2012. Please note that due to the large number of submissions, audition tapes/DVDs will not be reviewed or returned.
